A Square Peg AND a Round Hole
Have you ever felt like you don't fit in?
We all do now and then. There are many reasons we might feel that way.
Maybe you don't feel like you are a part of the "it" crowd. At work, at church, maybe even in your own family.
You feel like you aren't smart enough, not good enough. You feel inferior.
Philippians 4:19 promises that "God will meet all your needs according to the
riches of His glory in Christ Jesus."
We've all heard this verse, and most of us can quote it, but what does it mean?
Here is what I believe.
If I were to ask you what the most important words in Philippians 4:19 are, what would you say?
Would you say God? Meet needs? Riches? Glory? All good choices. But I believe that the most
important words are "according to."
Why? Well think about it. I have heard "out of" substituted for "according to."
In other words it would read, "God will meet all your needs out of the riches of His
glory in Christ Jesus."
Both versions SOUND similar, but I believe the difference is profound.
Think about it this way.
If we accept the words "out of" then I picture God with a big ol' pot of blessings.
He looks at our situation and scoops out a portion of blessings from the pot. Cool huh?
The only problem is that the pot has a bottom, which implies that God has a finite amount
of blessings at His disposal, and that He may have to stretch them our so that He has enough to go around.
Kind of like when your mom would add more rice or potatoes to dinner because she didn't have alot
of meat and she needed to make it go further. I know that wasn't ONLY my mom.
On the other hand, the words "according to" indicate to me a limitless supply of blessings.
God can never run out of blessings and He WANTS to bless our socks off.
Sometimes He is just waiting for us (myself included) to get out of the way...our feelings, our emotions,
ourselves out of the way so that we can recieve what He has for us.
Lamentations 3:22-23 says "The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end;
they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness."
Isn't that awesome, God never changes, His mercies and blessings never run out, and He never gives up.
So even when you feel like you don't fit in...you fit in with God.
Now, back to our Square Peg and Round Hole...Which one are you?
Are you the square peg? The one who feels like you don't fit in anywhere.
Or are you the round hole? The one who feels like noone fits in with you.
I promise, that was a word from God to me. Because before we can address this, we have to know
which one we are.
Remember that not everyone has to fit together. It is perfectly ok to not fit in sometimes. Maybe we
weren't supposed to.
But we also were not meant to go through this life alone. So if you NEVER feel like fitting in, ask
God to show you what He has for you. Ask Him to open His wonderful store of blessings to you, and show
you where He wants you to fit.
It may just change your entire perspective!
